Why do we accept that a corporation’s goal is to make money for its shareholders?

This article from Forbes discusses the origins of what a former GE CEO described as “the world’s dumbest idea”. It’s a nice discussion of the flawed philosophical practice of taking a conclusion as an unassailable certainty and picking out whatever facts support it to construct your argument.
